About Tin Wan

Clustered with residential apartment buildings, Tin Wan is a small district on the south coast of Hong Kong Island. It overlooks the tranquil waters of Aberdeen Harbour, which is famed for its floating village and seafood restaurants and is a short ferry ride from the beaches and hiking trails of Lamma Island.

Things to do in Tin Wan

Travelling with kids? They can let off some steam at the Shek Pai Wan Road Playground, where you’ll find leafy walking trails and water features. On the other side of Tin Wan is the Aberdeen Chinese Permanent Cemetery, which is the final resting place of some of Hong Kong’s most influential residents. Keep an eye out for the tomb of philosopher Cai Yuanpei, who played an important role in education reform.

Tin Wan is an ideal base for visiting the floating village of Aberdeen, which is renowned for its boat-dwelling population of Tanka people. Locally caught fish and shrimp are served at its floating restaurants and tours are available on traditional junks to explore the surrounding islands. Don’t miss the Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market, which is a hive of activity in the morning.

From Tin Wan, it’s easy to jump aboard a ferry to Lamma Island, which is known for its multicultural population and bohemian vibe. You can browse the independent boutiques that line Yung Shue Wan Main Street or hit the island’s hiking trails before dining at the laid-back seafood restaurants of Sok Kwu Wan. For a day at the beach, head to the golden sands of Hung Shing Yeh.

Getting around Tin Wan

Tin Wan is around 15 minutes’ drive from Central and 45 minutes from Hong Kong International Airport. Buses are the main means of getting to Tin Wan and ferries connect from nearby Aberdeen to Lamma Island.
