Things to do in Islands District

From lively stretches of sand to remote bays, Islands District has beaches for every mood. Discovery Bay on Lantau Island is lined with luxury resorts and promises world-class facilities. Make a splash with a huge variety of water sports, including stand-up paddle boarding, kitesurfing and windsurfing. Lower Cheung Sha boasts crystal-clear water that’s perfect for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking.

The Lantau Peak Trail stretches for five kilometres and takes you up to the 34-metre-tall Big Budda statue. As you hike, you can enjoy sweeping views over Lantau Island and the turquoise bay. If you don’t want to work up a sweat, the Ngong Ping 360 cable car is a great option.

Po Toi is the southernmost island and will enchant you with its golden sandy beaches and dramatic rocky coastline. The island is home to a famous seafood restaurant where you can enjoy shrimp, scallops and squid caught in the South China Sea.

Laidback Lamma Island is home to a community of artists, musicians and free-spirited locals. Enjoy lunch at a vegan café on Yung Shue Wan Main Street and visit an organic farm to sample herbal teas and stock up on fresh produce. Scenic hiking trails criss-cross the island and take you to remote beaches, charming fishing villages and secret World War II caves.
