About Tai Po District

Comprised of mountainous villages, a sprawling residential area and a plethora of islands, the Tai Po District is Hong Kong’s most diverse region. The district is where attractive expanses of greenery complement looming skyscrapers, mega malls and historic temples.

Things to do in Tai Po District

Train enthusiasts and history buffs will enjoy dropping into the Hong Kong Railway Museum, a beautiful building boasting indigenous Chinese architecture. Stroll through exhibition rooms full of KCR trains, the Japanese Shinkansen and Eurostar. There are two major locomotives on exhibition, six coaches available for public viewing, a pump trolley and a diesel-engine railcar.

For excellent views of the waterfront, spend some time at Tai Po Waterfront Park, located along the ToloHarbour. Enjoy panoramic vistas from the Tai Po lookout tower, stroll the promenade along the harbour front or take a tour through the insect house.

When you’re feeling social, head over to the Tai Po Mega Mall to dine and shop to your heart’s desire. Indulge in retail therapy, browsing through stores such as H&M or Yata, and when you get hungry, head to the Burger Kitchen for one of the best burgers in the city.

A blend of heritage and greenery, the Green Hub is a fun, interactive experience located near the Tai Po Railway Station. The historic building was once the old Tai Po Police Station and now serves as an educational exhibition where you can learn about ecology, collect and cook food from the farm and enjoy beautiful views of Hong Kong.

Getting around Tai Po District

The area is well-connected by the Yolo Highway, making for convenient vehicular access. Trains are the best way of getting around, as the Tai Po district is served by the MTR East Rail Line as well as the Ma On Shan Line.
