Famed for the “parting of the sea” phenomenon that takes place twice daily, Jebudo lies along the west coast of South Korea. It boasts a classic island atmosphere, with beautiful beaches, seafood restaurants and a coastal amusement park.
Things to do in Jebudo
Witness the “Miracle of Moses” as the sea parts along the coast of Jebudo Island, revealing an expansive mud flat at low tide. Locals come to experience this natural phenomenon and fossick for clams, sea anemones and oysters that are exposed in the sand.
Stroll along the elevated walkway that extends along Jebudo Island’s coastline and stop at one of the waterfront seafood restaurants dotting the route. Haemulpajeon (seafood pancakes) and hwidop bap (sashimi-topped rice) are among the local specialties, together with delicious clam soup.
Photograph the majestic Maebawi, also known as “falcon rock”, which sits on the northern edge of Jebudo Island and is where falcons come to roost. Another photogenic landmark is the lobster-red lighthouse and its wooden fishing pier that’s a popular spot for casting a line.
If you’re travelling with kids, visit the Jebu Land amusement park, which is packed with thrilling rides and arcade machines. Jebu Farm is another family-friendly destination where you can interact with the domestic animals and ride donkeys.
Getting around Jebudo
You can use the subway and buses to access Jebudo Island from Seoul, with the journey taking around two hours. The island itself is quite small, with both buses and taxis available for getting around.
