Where to stay in Pocheon

About Pocheon

Nestled in the mountainous surrounds of Gyeonggi, Pocheon boasts some of South Korea’s most unique attractions. It’s home to beautiful waterfalls and a spectacular quarry art gallery, as well as a quirky theme park dedicated to Mediterranean herbs.

Things to do

Stretch your legs along the hiking trail that winds along the slopes of the Soyosan mountain and admire the small waterfalls and springs. Explore the Buddhist shrines dedicated to the Silla-era priests, Wonhyo and Uisang, and the tiny Jaja Hermitage while enjoying sweeping vistas of Gyeonggi-do.

Learn about the cultivation of Mediterranean herbs at the Herb Island theme park, where you can wander through a recreated traditional Korean village and try on ceremonial clothing. Feast on herb-infused bread at the renowned bakery or experience herbal treatments at the aromatherapy centre. Afterwards, rent a gondola boat to cruise along the Venetian-inspired canal.

Engage your creative side at the Pocheon Art Valley, situated within a former quarry adjacent to an emerald lake. Admire the striking outdoor sculptures or try your hand at soap making, plate stone carving or woodworking during one of the workshops.

Pocheon is home to the Korea National Arboretum, where trees were first planted during the 15th century when Sejo of Joseon designated the area for his tomb. Follow one of the walking trails through its wooded areas and landscaped gardens while keeping an eye out for the white-bellied woodpecker.

Getting around

Pocheon is 2.5 hours from Gimpo International Airport or three hours from Incheon International Airport. It is also just over one hour’s drive from the centre of Seoul. Buses travel throughout Pocheon and the downtown area is easy to explore on foot.
