Where to stay in Vail

About Vail

Vail is a charming mountain town etched with snow-capped peaks and blue skies. One of Colorado’s premier skiing destinations, Vail is an outdoor activity hub complemented by the looming Vail Mountain, which stands at more than 3,500 metres above sea level.

Things to do

Visit the Vail Mountain Resort for some of the best skiing in the world. You can choose between nearly 200 runs or the seven legendary back bowls. Stop in at Vail Village or Lionshead for gear rental and when you’ve worked up an appetite, grab a bite to eat with mountainside views at Game Creek Restaurant.

Embrace Vail’s alpine habitat at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, located at the foot of Vail Mountain. Browse the informational displays in the Education Centre, stroll through the alpine rock garden and stop in at the mountain meditation garden for quiet reflection.

For a dose of history, head to the Colorado Ski Museum and Hall of Fame. Learn about the evolution of skis, explore the history of the National Ski Patrol and browse the exhibits from the 10th Mountain Division, the ski troopers of World War II.

Embark on a journey along the Booth Falls Trail. This strenuous hike takes you up more than 900 metres in elevation, passing lakes, waterfalls and aspen forests. Soak up views of the impressive natural scenery, which includes small fields of wildflowers.

Getting around

Vail is served by Eagle County Airport, located less than 50 kilometres west. Much of the town is pedestrian-friendly, with access to shuttle buses and hybrid electric buses. To explore the surrounding region, it’s best to travel around by car.
