Where to stay in Pueblo

About Pueblo

Once a bustling market and railroad town, today Pueblo is one of Colorado's most captivating cities. Wander the streets and you'll stumble across historic buildings, "Old West" forts and cultural museums.

Things to do

Stroll around Pueblo's characterful historic district, where most of the action is centred along Grand and Union avenues. Both are lined with buildings listed on the National Historic Registry. You can also walk along the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, a waterfront promenade lined with flower gardens, pavilions and open-air cafes.

Filled with local treasures, the El Pueblo History Museum offers a fascinating glimpse at the city's storied past. Highlights include an old military cannon, Native American tipi and a branch from the enormous tree that once towered over Union Avenue.

Archaeology buffs should visit the Picketwire Dinosaur Tracksite, one of North America's longest dinosaur trails. It's dotted with allosaurus and apatosaurus tracks that date back over 150 million years. In addition to driving tours, you can also hike to the tracks via the Withers Canyon trailhead.

Perched on the Arkansas River, Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site once served as an armed border between the United States and Old Mexico. Today the "Old West" stronghold has been beautifully restored to its original condition. Tours feature commentary from friendly guides dressed in period clothing. Highlights include an original blacksmith's shop, pioneer era general store and rickety wagon-wheel canons.

Getting around

Pueblo is serviced by a network of local buses that run throughout the city. Cars are also an easy way to explore Pueblo and the Arkansas River region.
