Where to stay in Aurora

About Aurora

Sprawling across the eastern outskirts of Denver, Aurora is renowned for its natural green spaces and prairie environments. Six award-winning golf courses are scattered throughout the city and there’s a fascinating historic farm district to explore, along with leafy trails in Cherry Creek State Park.

Things to do

Discover the people and places that have shaped the city at the Aurora History Museum, where old photographs, military artefacts and a restored 1913 trolley are on display. Locally created decorative and fine arts are also showcased, together with changing exhibitions on cultural awareness.

Spend an afternoon exploring the DeLaney Farm Historic District, which encompasses 64 hectares of rural farmlands and beautifully restored 19th-century farm buildings. A highlight is the historic DeLaney Round Barn, believed to be the last of its kind in Colorado. It houses exhibits detailing the dairy farming and agricultural industries of Aurora.

Set around a scenic reservoir, Cherry Creek State Park is an ideal spot to stretch your legs, with more than 50 kilometres of hiking and cycling trails. Take a dip at the man-made beach, go paddle boating on the water or enjoy a picnic amidst the rolling hills of its prairie landscapes.

One of the best ways to experience Cherry Creek State Park is on horseback with the highly-skilled team at 12 Mile Stables. Join one of their group riding excursions or opt for a private tour of the park while keeping an eye out for coyote, beaver, racoon and white-tailed deer.

Getting around

Aurora is 20 minutes’ drive east of downtown Denver and 25 minutes south of Denver International Airport. It’s well connected by both buses and trains and there’s plenty of parking available in Cherry Creek State Park.
