The Flamsbana railway stretches for 20 kilometres and takes you past some of the most spectacular scenery in Norway. Aurlandsfjord is another natural wonder. Named after a Nordic god, the fjord is surrounded by soaring cliffs, some more than 1,800 metres high. The picturesque village of Flam is perched on the tip of the fjord and charm travellers with its wooden buildings and a postcard-perfect church built in the 17th century.
Colourful houses and cosy cafes make the waterside village of Undredal a worthy destination to explore. The village is famous for its artisan cheeses made with milk from local goat herds. With space for just 40 worshippers, pocket-sized Undredal Church was built in the 1100s and is one of the smallest in Scandinavia.
Built in the 12th century, Borgund Stave Church is a feat of medieval architecture. It’s one of the most photographed churches in Norway and is set in a grassy cemetery surrounded dotted with ancient tombstones. A two-hour walking trail starts at the church and showcases the beautiful mountain scenery.
Sogn og Fjordane is located in West Norway. Førde is the largest town in the region and is a three-hour drive from Bergen.
