Where to stay in Molise

About Molise

Set between the Apennine Mountains and Adriatic Sea, sun-drenched Molise boasts three highly reputed wines, Biferno, Pentro di Isernia and Molise. Discover over 2,500 years of wine history in a treasure trove of cuisine, culture, and castles found in the Molise Wine Region.

Things to do

Biferno can be found along the coastline and centre of Campobasso province, which includes blends of Rosso, Bianco and Rosato. Whites are derived primarily from Trebbiano, while reds and roses principally come from Montepulciano grapes. Along the coastline, Di Majo Norante is a must-see winery for its bold and award-winning red Ramitello.

For a day of relaxation, stop by the seaside town of Termoli, where you can find secluded sandy coves and swim in emerald waters. Take a stroll through the whitewashed houses and fisherman huts, before stopping by Da Nicolino restaurant for a giant bowl of fish soup, perfectly paired with a Molise del Molise sparkling spumante.

If you prefer light and acidic wines, head inland past the medieval Monforte Castle to Pentro di Isernia, where Sangiovese grapes prevail. Visit Valerio Fields winery to try Insernia’s famous truffles and traditional dishes like “pezzata”, a tender lamb shoulder. Food enthusiasts can also sample the “torcinello”, a sausage filled with sheep liver.

Soak up the natural beauty of Molise with a hike in Abruzzo National Park or retrace the footsteps of ancient shepherds on historic migration trails known as “tratturi”. In winter, visit the region’s two ski resorts, Capracotta and Campitello Matese, both renowned for their networks of slopes.

Getting there

The closest international airport to Molise is Abruzzo International Airport in the city of Pescara. The Adriatic Railway provides efficient connections to Naples, Rome and Abruzzo. Once in Molise, you can catch regional trains and local buses or rent a car.
