About Taroko National Park

Spreading across 92,000 hectares in eastern Taiwan, Taroko National Park rests within the Central Mountain Range. Admire the sheer natural beauty of its towering mountain peaks, waterfalls, cliffs and forests. Taroko Gorge and Liwu River are visible from the Central Cross-Island Highway.

The cultural heritage of the park includes prehistoric sites of the Taroko aboriginals, including the famous Toroko Site with 85 upright stones dating back an estimated 3,000 years. Six other prehistoric sites in the park house remnants, such as stone spinning wheels, pottery and stone axes.

Highlights within the park include the 3,200-year-old Bilu Sacred Tree, which is 50 metres high and has a 3.5-metre diameter. Make your way to Qingshui Cliff for sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean from 800 metres high.

Getting there

The best way to reach Taroko National Park from Taipei is by car. You can pick up a rental vehicle from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport for the 3.5-hour drive. Alternatively, you can take a train to Xincheng Station, about 30 minutes away, then hire a guide for exploring the park.
