About Fengyuan District

Fengyuan District is a bustling neighbourhood set on the banks of the Dajia River. There are excellent museums and cultural attractions to visit, as well as a fantastic night market where you can try traditional Taiwanese street food. Fast public transport connections make Fengyuan District an ideal base for sightseeing in Taichung City.

Things to do in Fengyuan District

The Fengyuan Museum of Lacquer Art introduces you to the ancient art of lacquerware, which was introduced to Taiwan in the Japanese era. You can learn about the entire lacquer making process, from carving the “kiji” wood base to applying the high-shine paint and decorating the finished product with intricate carvings.

From art exhibits to music concerts, the Taichung Municipal City Huludun Cultural Centre hosts a diverse events calendar. The galleries are often filled with oil paintings, watercolours, pottery and traditional Taiwanese calligraphy. Enormous banyan trees shade the lush gardens that surround the cultural centre.

The Miao Dong Night Market is one of the best places in the country to try traditional Taiwanese street food. Save your appetite for spicy pork rib noodles, oyster omelettes and creamy pineapple ice cream. The market is located just outside the beautiful Tzu Chi Temple built during the Qing Dynasty. Step through the temple gates to admire the swallowtail roofs, colourful wood carvings and cherry red paper lanterns.

The Feng Yuan Golf & Country Club is nestled in the eastern hills and features more than 6,000 yards of manicured fairways. The parkland-style course features one of the highest tees in Taiwan, perched at almost 500 metres above sea level.

Getting around Fengyuan District
