About North Sydney

Situated across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, North Sydney is a large commercial district minutes away from the capital. From here, visitors will get amazing views of the Sydney skyline and have access to wonderful business and leisure attractions.

North Sydney is extremely busy during the week with a large business crowd and its own proud set of high-rises. Many business and upscale leisure hotels are available in the area. Although it mainly comes alive on weekdays, there are a few heritage landmarks of particular interest for history buffs such as the St Leonards Post Office, Clock Tower, and Don Bank History Museum. There is also a number of outdoor activities in the area. Visitors can have a fun day at the Sydney Luna Amusement Park or spend the day cooling off at one of the Olympic pools with views over the Harbour Bridge. To get the best views of both Sydney and North Sydney’s skylines, it is recommended to walk across the Harbour Bridge and then along the boardwalk from the Marina to Luna Park to the jogging lane at the end of the esplanade.

Even though North Sydney is only a 5-minute drive across the bridge from Sydney itself, due to a large number of businesses, there is often plenty of traffic and parking can be both hard to come by and expensive. As such, it is recommended to take the train on the North Shore Line or the ferry from Circular Quay and Darling Harbour to Luna Park Wharf and McMahons Point. If visitors have extra time another option is to walk across the bridge.

North Sydney began to spring up in the 1800s but really developed after the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. Today, the area is a major commercial centre.
