Where to stay in Nags Head

About Nags Head

Set on North Carolina's Outer Banks, Nags Head is a laid-back beach town fringed with golden sand. Spend your days hang gliding over sand dunes, strolling through salt marshes and beachcombing along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Things to do

Nags Head is all about sun, sand and summer vibes. Beachgoers make a beeline for Jennette's Pier, where you can swim, surf or sunbathe. Keep an eye out for dolphins frolicking just offshore.

Nags Head is also known for the enormous sand dunes that rise above Jockey's Ridge State Park. A wooden boardwalk winds through the park and showcases its local flora, fauna and salt marshes. It's also a launching pad for hang gliding adventures.

Set on a windswept peninsula, Bodie Island Lighthouse offers sweeping views over the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The black-and-white striped lighthouse was built in the 1870s and offers tour the Keepers Quarters. You can also climb 200 steps to the top of the lighthouse for panoramic coastal vistas.

Outer Banks is perfect for casting a line from the beach, fishing off the pier or signing up for a guided deep-sea charter. The region is coveted as the "Billfish Capital of the World", which means you have the chance to reel in monster-sized bluefish and marlin.

Getting around
