Where to stay in Greensboro

About Greensboro

With a great selection of gourmet restaurants, eclectic bars and live music venues, Greensboro is one of North Carolina’s most vibrant cities. It boasts a strong artistic culture and community atmosphere and is lined with picturesque urban landscapes and an excellent collection of museums.

Things to do

Spend an afternoon strolling through the beautiful Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, which is dotted with a variety of historic sculptures. Seasonal flowers and perennial shrubs are planted throughout its three hectares, with an elevated boardwalk leading through the wetlands of the adjacent Bog Garden.

One of Greensboro’s quirkiest museums is Elsewhere, an artist’s residency and project space set within an old thrift store. Admire the collection of former owner Sylvia Gray, which was amassed over more than 50 years of business, with artists invited to transform the objects into new works and installations.

Travelling with kids? Visit the Greensboro Children’s Museum, which houses a variety of hands-on exhibits and a large garden where their Edible Schoolyard takes place. Children can get to work in the Our Town exhibit and learn to shop for healthy food in The Market, then climb aboard the miniature Gate City Express steam locomotive or get creative at the Creation Station.

If you want to mix with the locals, head to Center City Park in the heart of downtown Greensboro. It often hosts live music, outdoor movie screenings and sculptural works by local artists. It also boasts a regular gathering of food trucks where you can sample some of the regional cuisines.

Getting around

Piedmont Triad International Airport is located around 20 minutes’ drive east of Greensboro and the city is connected to New York City and Washington D.C. by regular trains. Buses access all corners of Greensboro and its surrounding cities, with the downtown area compact enough to explore on foot.
