Where to stay in Løkken

About Løkken

Lokken is a charm-soaked beach town that combines history, culture and bucket-and-spade fun. The town has retained much of its historic charm and is dotted with brightly painted wooden houses and beach huts. Relax on the sandy beach, swim in the Black Sea and learn to surf. Lokken is also a great base for exploring the beautiful North Jutland region.

Things to do

Popular with sunseekers from Denmark and beyond, Lokken boasts one of the best beaches in the country. Colourful wooden beach huts dot the sand and give Lokken a postcard-perfect feel. A pier juts out into the Black Sea and is perfect for viewing North Sea sunsets.

There are plenty of chances to make a splash in Lokken, including a local surf school where you can learn to ride Black Sea waves. Stroll down the beach and you’ll come across a series of World War II bunkers.

Cafes, restaurants and boutiques line the cobbled streets of the town centre. Enjoy lunch at an al fresco café overlooking the main square and stop by Lokken Brewery to try beer brewed with locally grown malt. You’ll also be lured into gift boutiques and independent galleries showcasing works by local artists. The atmosphere is lively and upbeat in the summer, with lots of markets, festivals and outdoor concerts to attend.

As you walk around the town, you’ll notice traditional fisherman’s houses painted in bright shades of yellow. Lokken Museum occupies a former sea captain’s house and features exhibits on the town’s rich maritime heritage.

Getting around

Lokken is located in North Jutland, a 40-minute drive from Aalborg and five hours from Copenhagen. The town is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars offer the freedom to explore the North Jutland region at your own pace. Copenhagen Airport is a five-hour drive away.
