About Ålbæk

Aalbaek is a small village built around a picturesque harbour. It’s brimming with Danish charm, from the colourful wooden houses lining the streets to the fishing boats bobbing in the marina. Relax on the Blue Flag beach and explore the unique coastal landscapes of North Jutland.

Things to do in Ålbæk

White sand and shallow, crystalline water make Aalbaek Beach perfect for families. The pristine stretch of sand has Blue Flag status and is one of the best in Denmark. It stretches for several kilometres in each direction, making it easy to find your own patch of sand.

The landscapes surrounding Aalbaek are unique to North Jutland. Hiking trails take you through sprawling salt meadows, coastal heathlands and sandy dunes. Rabjerg Mile is one of the largest migrating sand dunes in Europe and reaches heights of more than 40 metres above sea level. Every year, strong winds move it almost 20 metres along the coast.

Fresh fish is a staple in Aalbaek. Head down to the quay to purchase sea trout, cod, herring and mackerel from local anglers. Alternatively, cast a line off the pier to reel in your own catch of the day. Local restaurants serve specialty dishes like “fiskefrikadeller” pan-seared fish patties and fried pickled herring.

Families make a beeline for Farm Fun, a beachside park where you can meet hundreds of friendly animals. In addition to traditional Danish farm animals like donkeys, pigs and rabbits, you’ll find kangaroos, emus, peacocks and other exotic species at the miniature zoo. Take a ride on the tractor and cool off at the beach.
