About Cheongna-dong

Cheongna-dong is a lively neighbourhood filled with shops, cafes and street stalls. Explore an alley lined with second-hand bookstores and watch a family-friendly musical fountain show. An enormous urban park and a sprawling Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course ensure there’s plenty of green space to enjoy in Cheongna-dong.

Things to do in Cheongna-dong

Cheongna Lake Park has earned the neighbourhood its “Venice of Korea” nickname. The park is an oasis of lakes and canals in the heart of the city. Walk, jog and cycle along the waterside trails and enjoy a picnic on the grass or rent a pedal boat and take a spin around the main lake and work up a sweat at the outdoor gym. Stay after dark to watch the musical fountain show, which features colourful lights.

Shop for unique souvenirs along Baedari Secondhand Bookstore Alley. Business boomed in the 1960s and 70s when it was difficult to secure books in Korea. Today the shelves are filled with everything from international novels and colourful children’s books to classic Korean literature.

Tee off at Bear's Best Golf Club, a 27-hole public course designed by iconic architect, Jack Nicklaus. The European-style course will challenge you with its long fairways, sand bunkers and the occasional water obstacle. Arrive early to practice your swing at the driving range.

Satisfy your appetite at street stalls dotted across Cheongna-dong. Try local specialties like “bulgogi” marinated BBQ meat wrapped in lettuce leaves and “hoeddeok” sweet pancakes stuffed with honey, cinnamon, brown sugar and chopped peanuts. If you’re really hungry, stop for a bowl of “japchae” stir-fried noodles. You’ll also find great coffee shops in Cheongna-dong.

Getting around Cheongna-dong

Taxis are a fast and affordable way to get around Cheongna-dong, while parts of the neighbourhood are easy to get around on foot. Subway trains run between Cheongna International City Station and the Seoul city centre in 30 minutes. Incheon International Airport is a 15-minute drive away or 30 minutes by subway.
