About Bexhill-on-Sea

Bexhill-on-Sea is an ancient seaside town where numerous archaeological sites and Edwardian and Victorian buildings meet a renowned art centre and live performance auditorium. The township is also surrounded by family-friendly attractions, beaches and opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Things to do

Start your Bexhill-on-Sea holiday at the Grade I-listed De La Warr Pavilion, which overlooks the English Channel and boasts an Art Deco architectural design. It’s now a contemporary arts centre, where you can admire a range of paintings, sculptures and other creations by famous British and international artists. Afterwards, visit the Bexhill Museum to explore the local history through race car, vintage fashion and natural exhibits.

The museum is right next to Egerton Park, a sprawling central greenscape with tennis courts, lawn bowls, an outdoor gym, picnic areas, playground and on-site cafe. Nature lovers should also drive along the coast to Cooden Beach, which has a promenade and long stretches of sand during low tide.

Stroll down the main strip of Devonshire Road to discover a wealth of boutiques and fine-dining restaurants. Browse through high-street fashion at New Look, M&Co and Chameleon Boutique before refuelling with a coffee at Cavells. Enjoy freshly-caught fish and crustaceans at The Seafood Brasserie or dine on delicious Indian curries at Basmati Indian Cuisine.

You’ll need to venture slightly inland to find the 15th-century Herstmonceux Castle, which features restored medieval architecture and immaculate royal gardens. It’s near the family-friendly Observatory Science Centre, where you can attend science workshops and partake in interactive displays, including using the giant telescope in the centre’s observatory.

Getting around

Bexhill-on-Sea is easily reached by catching the East Coastway line from London or one of the various bus routes from nearby cities. You can also catch buses around the town centre, which is easily explored on foot. A car is best for accessing the surrounding attractions.
