About Atocha Railway Station

Atocha Railway Station is Madrid’s largest train station, constructed with steel and glass. Dating back to 1892, the station is the main hub for intercity trains from across Spain, particularly Barcelona, Cordoba, Malaga, Seville and Valencia.

Around 4,000 square metres of tropical gardens line its concourse, complemented by a permanent art displays and a turtle pool. Dine at one of the alfresco restaurants, then pay your respects at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the bombings in 2004. Wait for your train in the Sala Club 1st class lounge to enjoy complimentary drinks, snacks and Wi-Fi.

Atocha Railway Station is next to Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, a beautiful square named after Charles V who reigned in Spain. It’s also within walking distance of the Museo Reina Sofia, Real Jardin Botanico de Madrid and Parque del Buen Retiro.

Getting there

Atocha Railway Station is 16 kilometres from the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez Airport and a 20-minute walk from Madrid’s city centre. From the airport, travel by bus, taxi, metro or train to the station, with the journey taking less than an hour.
