Serving as a major transportation hub in western Austria, the Salzburg Central Station lies on the edge of the city’s historic heart. In addition to being a departure point for long-distance services and local S-Bahn trains, it serves regional buses connecting to the Greater Salzburg area.
Step inside the newly renovated Salzburg Central Station, which was designed by Klaus Kada around a historical central platform and main entrance hall. Originally opened in 1860, the station now connects Salzburg with cities across Europe along ICE, Intercity and Eurocity train lines.
Watch the commuters coming and going along the local S-Bahn trains or jump aboard the Salzburger Lokalbahn to access the northern Flachgau region. Directly in front of the Salzburg Central Station is the sprawling Südtiroler Platz while adjacent lies Forum1, a large shopping mall home to retail stores, restaurants and a supermarket.
Getting there
Salzburg Central Station is a 15-minute walk from the historic heart of Salzburg and can be accessed by numerous bus routes that stop outside the entrance. Salzburg Airport is 15 minutes’ drive away and has flights from destinations across Europe.
