The Politecnico di Milano, translated to the Polytechnic University of Milan, is both Italy’s largest technical university and Milan’s oldest university, offering a diverse curriculum of courses set across two primary campuses in Milan. The Citta Studi campus, also known as the Milano Leonardo campus, is the largest and is also home to the university’s central offices, while the Milan Bovisa campus is located in the Bovisa area of Milan and has been open since 1989.
The University occupies a relatively convenient location just outside of the centre of Milan, placing visitors within easy travelling distance to much of what Milan has to offer. As well as being one of the top ranking Italian higher education institutes, the Politecnico di Milano is home to an interesting and active student life including many organisations such as student theatre companies. The University campuses are beautiful and would make for a pleasant sightseeing trip for any visitors to the city.
Located just outside of the centre of Milan, the University of Milan is situated close by to numerous public transportation networks which make getting there easy from anywhere across Milan. The city of Milan is served by two airports as well as Orio al Serio airport at nearby Bergamo which is only 45 kilometres away. The biggest airport in the area is Milan-Malpensa Airport which handles over 18.5 million passengers each year, while Milan Linate Airport is slightly smaller serving over 9.5 million passengers annually. Getting from Milan-Malpensa Airport into the centre of Milan is conveniently quick with the Malpensa Express Train, taking only around 40 minutes. Milan Linate Airport is a lot closer to the centre of Milan and is linked by public bus networks as well as an express bus service.
The Politecnico di Milano was founded in 1863, making it Milan’s oldest university. The main Milan Leonardo campus was first opened in 1927 and benefited from regular expansion work over the years, while the Milan Bovisa campus is a relatively new addition to the University having been opened in 1989. The University also has satellite campuses in Italy and maintains a strong relationship with foreign universities, ensuring there is a multinational mix of students on campus.
