Where to stay in Playa Blanca

About Playa Blanca

Blessed with white-sand beaches, crystal-clear coves and a pleasant climate, it’s easy to see why Playa Blanca attracts an international sun-seeking crowd. The upmarket resort town combines the charm of a quaint fishing village with plush bars and world-class restaurants.

Things to do

Slip on your swimsuit for a day at one of Playa Blanca’s famous white-sand beaches. Playa Dorada has a lively atmosphere and watersports, but if it’s relaxation you crave, head further east to Punta del Papagayo, a chain of idyllic coves with sparkling water.

Take a day trip to Timanfaya National Park, which boasts Fire Mountains that were formed 300 years ago when over 100 volcanoes erupted, leaving behind a twisted landscape of solidified lava. Take a camel ride across this maroon terrain, then stop at the summit for lunch at El Diablo restaurant, where daredevil chefs cook using geothermal heat from the dormant volcanoes.

Ever wanted to visit an underwater museum? Dive 12 metres below the surface to explore the Atlantic Museum, which features a unique collection of sculptures resting on the ocean floor of Las Coloradas Bay. The sculpture garden is covered in coral and attracts a diverse mix of marine life, including angel sharks, barracudas and octopus.

Find handcrafted jewellery, leather sandals and local aloe vera at the Marina Rubicon Artisan Market, held Wednesday and Saturday mornings on the waterfront. You can also shop for high-end fashion and enjoy a sumptuous seafood feast at the marina’s restaurants, such as Restaurant El Mirador.

Getting around

You can fly into Lanzarote Airport in Arrecife. From here, private taxis and shuttle buses take you to Playa Blanca in 30 minutes. With limited public bus services, it’s better to use rental cars, tour buses and taxis to get around. Ferries can take you from Playa Blanca Port to the island of Fuerteventura in 25 minutes.
