About Innisfail

A highlight of Queensland’s Cassowary Coast region, Innisfail is a river town with regular crocodile sightings and numerous riverfront parklands. The historic town centre reveals a range of Heritage-listed Art Deco buildings, along with museums and charming cafes.

Things to do in Innisfail

Stroll or drive around the centre of Innisfail to see its collection of historic architecture, from the early-20th-century Innisfail Courthouse on Edith Street to the post-war St Andrew's Presbyterian Memorial Church on Rankin Street. You’ll also be able to admire the Art Deco architecture of the old theatre, now part of the Australian Sugar Industry Museum. Inside, you’ll see interactive exhibits and informative displays on the town’s sugar heritage.

Want to spot a crocodile while you’re in Innisfail? You can try your luck gazing out at the Johnstone River from Fitzgerald Esplanade. However, you’ll have a better chance of seeing these highly-developed predators from a crocodile-spotting cruise with Snapping Tours. The boats take you up and down the river with experienced guides who know where the crocodiles like to hang out.
