About Bishan

Positioned near Singapore’s verdant reservoirs, Bishan is filled with lush scenery, from a riverfront park to leafy playgrounds. This town also boasts multiple shopping and dining hubs, along with a recreation centre and one of Singapore’s most notable monasteries.

Things to do

Relax at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, a sprawling expanse of shaded walking trails, tranquil waterways and grassy lawns reminiscent of Central Park in New York City. Follow the Kallang River through the park to discover locals fishing for guppies, multiple “Adventure” playgrounds and unique native wildlife. Tai Chi is popular in the mornings, while Cornerstone restaurant serves Western fare among its tranquil gardens.

If you’re visiting with your family, stop in at some of the leafy playgrounds around town, such as Jalan Pintau Playground and Clover Way Playground. The nearby Bishan Active Park is perfect for kicking a ball around, while the SMRT Recreation Club has a state-of-the-art gym, multiple swimming pools, basketball courts and a beach volleyball court.

Love to shop? Make a beeline for Junction 8 shopping mall, where you’ll find international and local retailers, such as CITIGEMS for jewellery, Converse for sneakers and Kiddy Palace for children’s toys and entertainment. Grab some delicious ice cream from Häagen-Dazs or some Western-style pizza from Joe & Dough.

If you’re interested in learning more about the local culture, head over to Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, an early-20th-century Buddhist temple with intricate Eastern architecture and traditional ceremonies. About 10 minutes’ drive south from Bishan in neighbouring Toa Payoh you’ll discover a collection of revered religious sites, from the Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple with its intricate sculptures to the timber roof and landscaped grounds at Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery.

Getting around

Bishan is serviced by an MRT station on the North South and Circle lines, which offers easy access to greater Singapore. You can also catch public buses or use taxis to get around.
