About Vis

Vis is a sun-drenched island marooned in the Adriatic Sea. The beaches are stunning, ranging from gold-sand bays to rocky coves. As you explore Vis, you’ll quickly see how the islands captivated filming scouts for the hit movie “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”. A flourishing viticultural scene is a bonus for wine lovers.

Things to do in Vis

The beaches on Vis will dazzle you with its gleaming white pebbles and aquamarine water. Stiniva is one of the most beautiful on the island, surrounded by limestone cliffs and accessible only by boat or via a rugged hiking trail. If you prefer sandy beaches, head to the eastern end of the island, where you can bask on gems like Milna and Zaglav.

Lively Vis Town is a great base for exploring the island and will charm you with its cobblestone alleys and sunny squares lined with al fresco cafes. Marvel at the ancient Greek and Roman ruins, then head to the Archaeological Museum to discover exhibits on the history of the island. The museum occupies a 19th-century fortress and showcases ancient bronzes, Hellenistic pottery and artefacts salvaged from offshore shipwrecks.

Despite its popularity, most of the Vis coastline is pristine and undeveloped. Blue Cave is one of the island’s most beautiful natural wonders, with sun streaming through an underwater tunnel and creating a magical glow. Guided boat tours depart from Komiza and are the best way to visit Blue Cave.

Hum towers 587 metres over Vis and treats you to spectacular views over the island. Drive up to the end of the road, then follow a short trail to a scenic lookout. The views over the sparkling Adriatic Sea and the town of Komiza are postcard perfect.

Getting around Vis

Renting a car, electric scooter or quad bike is the best way to explore Vis at your own pace. Vis Town, Komiza and other settlements are pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Ferries run between Split and Vis Town in around 2.5 hours.
