Where to stay in Torres

About Torres

A popular surfing destination along Brazil’s southern coast, Torres is known for the remarkable basalt rock formations that tower along its coastline. Torres pulses with exhilarating nightlife, with beachfront bars and restaurants serving up fresh seafood.

Things to do

Unlike most of Brazil’s sandy coastline, Torres features giant overgrown cliffs and looming rock formations that jut from the seaside. Guarita State Park is one of the best places to take in these natural monuments while relaxing on the beach or exploring small hiking trails.

The city of Torres is surrounded by four rock formations that rise 40 metres above the sea. Known locally as “furnas,” each tower contains multiple caves that create an impressive display with each crashing wave. Furnas Hill is the largest of the towers and lies at the end of Cal Beach, the best surfing spot in Torres.

Overlooking rocky seashore, beaches and the Island of Wolves protected wildlife refuge, Lighthouse Hill is a great place to relax and watch surfers and paragliders. Love uninterrupted beach views? Walk to the popular lookout for rewarding 360-degree vistas of the city and surrounding coastline.

Getting around

To reach Torres, fly into Salgado Filho Airport in Porto Alegre, before driving 2.5 hours to Torres. Rental cars are available, as well as buses and domestic flights that service Torres. Once in the city, public buses provide connections into each neighbourhood, with routes extending to the beaches and parks on the outskirts of the city.
