Local restaurants in Spodnje Skofije serve hearty Slovenian classics like “struklji” rolled dumplings stuffed with cheese and “jota” potato stew stuffed with sauerkraut. Cafes serve enormous slices of “gibanica” layer cake flavoured with apples, nuts, raisins and poppy seeds. You’ll also see plenty of Italian influence in Spodnje Skofije, with authentic pizza, pasta and crusty bread on the menus.
Getting there
Spodnje Skofije is compact and easy to get around on foot or by taxi. The town is a 15-minute drive from Trieste and one hour from Ljubljana. Trieste Ronchi dei Legionari Airport is a 45-minute drive away.
