Strolling over Løkke Bridge, you’ll be retracing the footsteps of Claude Monet. The iconic French artist visited the town in 1895 and painted several masterpieces, including the famous “Sandviken Village in Snow” featuring the Kolsas mountains and Løkke Bridge.
Sandvika Storsenter features more than 60,000 square metres of retail space and is one of the largest malls in Scandinavia. From artisan tea to iconic Scandinavian fashion brands such as Ganni, the mall features almost 200 specialty stores.
Sandvika is set on the banks of Oslofjord and is fringed by beautiful sandy beaches. Kadettangen Beach is a local favourite, with soft sand, shallow water and a swimming raft. Small boats are docked on the southern end of the beach and take you out to the Vestfjorden islands. Clothing-optional Kalvøya Beach is popular with sunseekers while the grassy foreshore at Store Badebukt Beach is great for picnics and ball games.
Perched on a peninsula overlooking Oslofjord, Henie Onstad Art Centre showcases a fantastic collection of local and international works. Sandvika is a 15-minute drive or train ride from Oslo. Local buses also run between Sandvika and the Norwegian capital. The city is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Oslo Airport is a 45-minute drive or train ride away.
