About Puyallup

Home to the Washington State Fair, Puyallup is a charming city south-east of Tacoma. It takes its name from the area’s Native American tribe, with “Puyallup” translating as “the generous people”. After crossing the Cascade Range, the first European settlers arrived in 1853 before Puyallup was platted by Ezra Meeker in 1877.

Stroll through Puyallup’s old-fashioned downtown shopping area, which is dotted with an abundance of antique stores. More than 30 outdoor sculptures can be found throughout the streets, with Valley Arts United continually adding to the collection. At the Karshner Memorial Museum, you can explore the local history or attend one of its regular cultural events.

On the southern edge of Downtown Puyallup is Pioneer Park, which centres around a statue of the early pioneer, Ezra Meeker. Kids will love the children’s playground and spray park while older visitors can challenge one another to a game on the built-in chess tables. Coincide your visit with the Puyallup Farmers Market, which is held during the spring and summer months.

If you’re travelling with kids, head to the Catapult Adventure Park, where you’ll find ball pits, soft obstacle courses and a climbing wall. They can harness up on the Cat Walk and Flying Leopard or reach new heights on the Mount Catapult. The Catapult Adventure Park also features several fun-filled slides, including the Quadruple Drop and the Catapult Mega Chute.
