Things to do in Pisa
One of Italy's most iconic sights, the Leaning Tower of Pisa rises 56 metres above the city. While the tilt has now been stabilised, the tower still leans at almost four degrees off the vertical. Climb up its steep staircase to capture sweeping views over the city.
Built in 1064, Pisa's ancient Duomo dazzles with its tiered facade and gleaming bronze doors. Inside you'll feel dwarfed by a cavernous hall featuring granite columns and a wooden ceiling decorated with 24-carat gold. You'll also find marble sculptures carved by Italian artist Giovanni Pisano.
For an off-the-beaten-track experience, make a detour to Camposanto. The elegant cemetery serves as a final resting place for a host of illustrious Italians. After wandering around the gardens, visit the Frescoes Room to admire famous 14th-century murals from painters, such as Buonamico Buffalmacco.
No trip to Pisa would be complete without devouring the delicious Italian cuisine. In addition to pizza and pasta, Pisa also boasts one of Italy's most legendary gelato shops. Just follow the crowds to Gelateria De' Coltelli, where you'll find a smorgasbord of creative, 100-percent natural flavours.
