About Palmira

Palm-lined streets, breezy parks and a balmy tropical climate give Palmira a Mediterranean feel. The city is set in the Cauca River Valley and has a long history dating back to the 1600s. Stroll around the lively city centre, admire the historic cathedral and discover the city’s legacy as a sugarcane-growing giant.

Our Lady of Rosario del Palmar Cathedral soars over the city and is a local landmark. Palm trees frame the cathedral and create a postcard-perfect backdrop. Nearby is Río Claro Rail Station, a former transport hub that’s been beautifully restored and reimaged as a local history museum.

Join local families for an evening in Parque la Factoría. Stalls pop up in the park on weekends and will tempt you with fresh-squeezed fruit juices and colourful ice creams. Branch out and try “lulada”, a Colombian favourite made with lime juice, sugar and zesty lulo fruits.

Escape the city and enjoy the fresh air and lush greenery in Palmira Municipal Forest. Stroll along tree-lined paths, relax by the lake and enjoy a picnic on the grass. Parts of the park are landscaped, and others feel wild and untamed. Rent a bike to explore the park on two wheels.

Browse international labels and local Colombian brands at Llanogrande Shopping Centre. The enormous indoor mall is one of the biggest in the country. Shop the latest Latin American fashion trends and catch a movie at the multiscreen cinema. There are several outdoor bars and restaurants, plus a mini amusement park to entertain the kids.
