Things to do in Novi Sad

Petrovaradin Fortress towers over the city and is perched on a volcanic bluff. It’s one of the largest citadels in Europe and is famous for its enormous clock tower. Novi Sad is a hub for Serbian arts, culture and music. The city has a creative soul and is home to excellent galleries, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina. The Gallery of Matica Srpska showcases a treasure trove of Serbian artwork spanning from the 18th century to the modern era.

Strand stretches for 700 metres along the Danube and is one of the best riverside beaches in Europe. In summer, the beach is dotted with popup bars, cafes and ice-cream stands. Relax on the sand, take a dip in the Danube and enjoy a picnic on the grassy foreshore.

Over the centuries, Novi Sad has been inhabited by Hungarians, Slovaks, Croats, Romanians and of course, Serbians. The city is a cultural melting pot and features excellent restaurants specialising in many different cuisines.

Getting around Novi Sad

Novi Sad is compact and easy to get around on foot, especially in the Stari Grad old quarter and along pedestrianised Zmaj Jovina. Buses are a fast and affordable way to get around the city. Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade is a one-hour drive away.
