Things to do in Ninh Binh
Enjoy a scenic rowboat ride through Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Sao Khe River winds through the limestone mountains and has created a series of caves and grottoes. From the water, you’ll get eye-popping views of the jungle-covered mountains that tower over the river.
Meet langurs, gibbons and loris in Cuc Phuong National Park. The park is home to the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre, which runs fantastic breeding and rehabilitation programs. Trails wind through the tropical forest and offer a chance to spot macaques, flying squirrels and, if you’re incredibly lucky, clouded leopards.
Be amazed by larger-than-life landscapes in Van Long Nature Reserve. Soaring limestone pinnacles dot the wetland reserve, which is home to rare birds like the black-faced spoonbill. Visit early in the morning for the best chance to see critically endangered Delacour’s langurs. Boat rides are the best way to explore the park and spot wildlife.
With a footprint of more than 500 hectares, Chua Bai Dinh is one of the biggest temples in Vietnam. The enormous complex was built in 2014 and puts a modern spin on Buddhism. A 10-metre bronze Buddha statue anchors the main pagoda.
Escape the crowds at Bich Dong Pagoda, a tranquil Buddhist temple carved into the foot of a limestone mountain. Access to the temple is via an ancient stone bridge that stretches across a lotus-filled pond. Walk up to the lookout for sweeping views over the surrounding forests and peaks.
Getting around Ninh Binh
Ninh Binh is compact and easy to get around on foot. Motorbikes and scooters can be a good way to get around Ninh Binh and visit surrounding sights and attractions. Bicycles are an eco-friendly option. The town is a 1.5-hour drive from Hanoi and two hours from Noi Bai International Airport.
