Located in the Sumapaz River Valley, Melgar is a popular weekend destination south-west of Bogota. Join one of the local outfitters for an exhilarating white water adventure down the Sumapaz River, which is renowned for its steep run. Alternatively, you can challenge your family and friends to a game of paintball in El Gaitero Eco Park or launch yourself off El Tablazo during a paragliding flight. For something more leisurely, enjoy a swim in one of the many natural pools of La Cajita Gorge.

At Ciudad Reptilia, you can come face-to-face with huge crocodiles, alligators and turtles, as well as flora native to the region. Nearby is Parque General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, a lively square named after the former president of Colombia.

If you’re visiting in the warmer months, head west to Piscilago, a family-friendly water park with a variety of themed swimming pools and waterslides. Fly down the “Pisciguracanes” and “Piscitornado” slide, ride the paddle boats or just kick back in one of the many sun loungers. In addition to concessions selling food and drinks, there is a small on-site zoo with jungle cats.
