About Kuwana

One of the post stations on the Edo-era Tokaido Highway, Kuwana is a historically rich city. It’s home to a magnificent Meiji Period mansion and a festival museum and is situated on the doorstep of one of Japan’s most inspiring theme parks.

Things to do in Kuwana

Spend time exploring the traditional art and craft displays of the Kuwana City Museum and admire its scale model of Kuwana Castle, then visit the interactive Ishidori Kaikan. It’s dedicated to the city’s annual Ishidori Matsuri festival, with videos showcasing its evolution. You can also play percussive instruments that are featured in the celebration.

Visit the Meiji Period mansion of Rokkaen, designed by the English architect Josiah Conder as a residence for local rice magnate Seiroku Moroto. Wander through European-inspired buildings decorated with original furnishings, then admire the traditional gardens from the Japanese-style tatami annex.

Make a day trip from Kuwana to the Site of Reversible Destiny at Yoro Park, created by New York-based Japanese artist Arakawa Shusaku.
