About Kleinwalsertal

Encompassing three villages along the River Breitach, the Kleinwalsertal is a picturesque valley in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. It has been settled since at least the Stone Age and was populated by Walsers in the 13th century. The Kleinwalsertal is surrounded by the soaring peaks of the Allgäu Alps, which provide a setting for year-round adventures.

If you’re visiting in the winter months, you can take advantage of the downhill runs in the Kanzelwand-Fellhorn ski area. Winter hiking, cross-country skiing and tobogganing are also available. Once you’ve built up an appetite, you can feast on local game and alpine cheese at one of the village restaurants.

In the summer months, the Kleinwalsertal is best explored on one of its many hiking or mountain biking trails, which offer magnificent views of the Allgäu Alps. The area is also renowned for its climbing routes, with two of the most popular being Mindelheimer Klettersteig and Zweienland Klettersteig.

Getting there

The Kleinwalsertal is around 20 minutes’ drive from Oberstdorf and 2.5 hours from Innsbruck Airport, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe. Buses connect to towns and villages throughout the valley while ski lifts ascend to the surrounding slopes.
