Fronted by a red-coloured Tsuzumi Gate inspired by traditional Japanese hand drums, the Kanazawa Railway Station is a modern architectural landmark. It was completed in 2005 and serves as a major transport hub in the city, with local trains, Shinkansen (bullet trains) and bus services all departing from here.
Get your bearings at the Tourist Information Centre before you enter the soaring dome of the Kanazawa Railway Station or relax on one of the flower-filled benches. Tickets for JR railways and Shinkansen services can be purchased inside the station building, where you’ll also find a range of restaurants, shops and convenience stores.
Local buses depart from the square outside the Kanazawa Railway Station for attractions across the city, including the Kanazawa Castle Park and Kenrokuen Garden. You can walk to the Omicho Market to sample local seafood specialties and shop for fresh produce.
Getting there
Kanazawa Railway Station is connected to destinations across Japan by trains. It’s a 40-minute drive or train ride from Komatsu Airport, which has flights from China, Taiwan and South Korea.
