Sitting 3,000 meters above sea level, Huaraz lures in trekking enthusiasts. Huascaran National Park is the most popular hiking destination, covering nearly 340,000 hectares. The UNESCO-listed site boasts 25 trekking routes and 102 mountaineering spots, including the famous five-day Santa Cruz trek which covers 48 kilometers.

Make the one-day hike to Laguna 69, considered one of the most beautiful hikes in South America. Here you will be surrounded by mountain glaciers and can admire the crystalline water of Chinancocha glacial lake, which sits in front of the towering Pisco Peak.

Need a break from adrenaline-fueled activities? Explore the traditional Huaraz township. You can pick up handmade souvenirs from one of the vendors in the local market, such as thick wool socks and llama themed sweaters, or visit the indoor Avenida Raymond market for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Rest your weary muscles in one of the hot springs nearby. Monterrey sits 10 kilometers north of Huaraz and features outdoor pools and private baths, while Chances Hot Springs boasts seven saunas nestled in caves.
