About Hřensko

Established as a trade hub in the 15th century, Hřensko is a picturesque village on the Elbe River where it marks the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. It is backed by the rugged peaks of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and serves as a gateway to the natural monuments of Bohemian Switzerland National Park.

Don’t miss the magical Kamenice Gorges, which have been carved over centuries by the Kamenice River. Flanked by dense forest and spectacular overhangs, Edmund’s Gorge and Divoka Gorge can be accessed partially on foot and by boat cruises in the summer months.

Also nearby is the Pravčicka Brana, which is the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. Spanning more than 26 metres, it has become a symbol of the region and was featured in the 2005 film “The Chronicles of Narnia”. Alongside the archway is the Sokolí Hnízdo Hotel built by Prince Edmund of Clary-Aldringen in 1881.
