Where to stay in Fuji

About Fuji

Overlooking the waters of Suruga Bay, Fuji City is a bustling hub and gateway to Mount Fuji. It boasts magnificent views of this iconic peak and offers easy access to the Fuji Five Lakes and Snow Town Yeti.

Things to do

Tackle the challenging climb to the summit of Mount Fuji along the famous Yoshida Trail. Climb the trail during the pre-dawn hours to witness an unforgettable sunrise when you have the best chance of experiencing a cloud-free peak and sweeping views of Honshu Island.

Make a day trip to the northern side of the mountain and the Fuji Five Lakes, which offer photogenic views of Mount Fuji’s snow-capped peak. Relax on the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko, admire the kimono art of Kubota Itchiku at the Kubota Museum, then relax in the hot springs of nearby Hakone.

Want Mount Fuji views closer to home? Iwamoto Mountain Park in the west of Fuji City offers magnificent views that stretch across the Izu Peninsula. By day it’s a popular place to stroll, with seasonal flowers and a plum tree grove. At night its observation deck is a spectacular spot for taking in the twinkling lights of Fuji City.

If you’re visiting during winter, hit the slopes of Snow Town Yeti, a small ski resort on Mount Fuji’s southern slope. Enjoy the jumps and rails in the terrain park, hone your skiing and snowboarding skills in the beginner’s area and experience a night skiing session on its long runs.

Getting around

Fuji City is around two hours’ drive from Tokyo and Haneda Airport or just over one hour by train from Shizuoka. Trains travel throughout Fuji City and buses connect to destinations surrounding Mount Fuji.
