Make a day trip to the northern side of the mountain and the Fuji Five Lakes, which offer photogenic views of Mount Fuji’s snow-capped peak. Relax on the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko, admire the kimono art of Kubota Itchiku at the Kubota Museum, then relax in the hot springs of nearby Hakone.

Want Mount Fuji views closer to home? Iwamoto Mountain Park in the west of Fuji City offers magnificent views that stretch across the Izu Peninsula. By day it’s a popular place to stroll, with seasonal flowers and a plum tree grove. At night its observation deck is a spectacular spot for taking in the twinkling lights of Fuji City.

If you’re visiting during winter, hit the slopes of Snow Town Yeti, a small ski resort on Mount Fuji’s southern slope. Enjoy the jumps and rails in the terrain park, hone your skiing and snowboarding skills in the beginner’s area and experience a night skiing session on its long runs.

Getting around Fuji
