FNB Stadium is an iconic soccer arena just outside of Johannesburg that played a prominent role in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is the current home field of the Kaizer Chiefs F.C., who play in the South African Premier Soccer League. This famed stadium has also hosted numerous important events throughout South Africa’s history, including Nelson Mandela’s first post-prison speech.
The stadium can hold almost 95,000 spectators, making it the largest sporting venue in South Africa. Along with soccer, FNB Stadium hosts international rugby matches and live music concerts, from Bon Jovi and the Foo Fighters to Ed Sheeran and U2. FNB Stadium is located next to Expo Centre Johannesburg, which hosts numerous automotive and industry events. The stadium is also easily combined with the nearby Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City amusement park.
Getting there
FNB Stadium is located just off the Soweto Highway and has ample on-site parking. You can also get there by catching a train to Nasrec Station, which is serviced by the Johannesburg – Naledi line, then walking about 10 minutes.
