Where to stay in Enniskillen

About Enniskillen

Situated among scenic waterways linking the Upper and Lower Lough Erne of Northern Ireland, Enniskillen is a lively island town with castles, museums, centuries-old churches and traditional markets. It also features boating and fishing excursions, performance art and a hearty pub scene.

Things to do

Explore the castles and fortresses of Enniskillen, including Castle Coole, a neoclassical palace. Roam the 600 hectares of parkland to spot the resident graylag geese, then take a guided tour to see the double cantilever staircase, servant’s quarters and multiple Italian marble fireplaces.

At Enniskillen Castle, once occupied by Maguire chieftains in the 1500s, you can learn about history, wildlife and archaeology in the on-site Fermanagh County Museum. Re-live the glory days of rail at Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum, where you’ll find vintage uniforms, timetables, signs and tickets.

Wander through revitalised buildings in the old marketplace, which now houses local art studios and craft shops selling ceramics, textiles, paintings and jewellery. Refuel at Rebecca’s Coffee Shop, a local favourite dishing out pastries and cottage pies. In the evening, check the schedule for drama, concerts, film screenings and pantomimes at Ardhowen Theatre.

Traditional pubs abound in Enniskillen, particularly at Blakes of the Hollow, which has been pouring brews since 1887. The pub still uses a marble bar, antique silver lamp holders and sherry casks. In a nod to modern storytelling, 10 doors inside the pub display carved depictions of scenes from the TV show “Game of Thrones”.

Getting around

Buses, taxis, shuttles and bike hires service Enniskillen. You can also rent a car from Belfast International Airport or Belfast City Airport, which are both about a two-hour drive away.
