Where to stay in Carson City

About Carson City

Carson City is a celebration of cultural diversity, outdoor playgrounds and fascinating historical museums. The capital city of Nevada, Carson City has some of the most captivating attractions in the state, while the surrounding region reveals one of the world’s most-famous lakes and rugged mountain landscapes.

Things to do

The largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe is world-renowned for its summer beaches and winter ski resorts. Dive into the crystal-clear water at Sand Harbor Beach, hike alongside the picturesque lake at Prey Meadows and enjoy a leisurely picnic beside a rocky beach at Cave Rock Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.

In the centre of Carson City, you’ll find a number of historic attractions, such as The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. Inside, you and your entire family can enjoy a range of interactive exhibits, such as science workshops, a train simulation and climbing tubes. It’s across the road from the Nevada State Museum, home to the world’s largest exhibited Columbian Mammoth and the oldest North American mummy.

Do you love heritage architecture? Drive slightly north of Carson City to visit the storied Bowers Mansion, built in 1863. It’s a grand example of period furnishings and even features a spring-fed pool. Closer to town is the modern Jack C. Davis Observatory, which has three telescopes and offers planetary walks and astronomy evenings.

Those who enjoy playing the slots or table games are spoiled for choice with Casino Fandango, Dotty’s Casino, Jackpot Crossing Casino and Slot World Casino all within easy driving distance. The latter two are a short drive from the picturesque Empire Ranch Golf Course, home to 27 championship-level holes.

Getting around

Carson City is easily reached by driving on well-signed highways or flying into Carson Airport or Reno-Tahoe International Airport. You can use Carson City’s taxis and modern Jump Around Carson buses to get around, but a car is best for exploring the surrounding region.
