About Braşov

An ancient city populated with medieval watchtowers and Baroque churches, Brasov also boasts trendy eateries, jazz clubs and espresso cafes. Many travellers sightsee through Brasov before skiing at Poiana Brasov resort or trekking through Piatra Craiului National Park nearby.

Things to do

Enjoy breakfast at one of the small pastel cafes dotting the main Piaţa Sfatului square. With a little encouragement, you’ll hear local legends and tall tales of roaming bears, grave resurrections and the inevitable stories of encounters with Vlad the Impaler.

Make your way to the 16th-century Weavers' Bastion Museum to see a recreation exhibit of the ancient city, along with inscribed Turkish weapons and gun collections. The Braşov Historical Museum, housed inside the old City Hall building, looks at the Saxon guilds that once permeated the region.

Check the schedules for concerts by the renowned Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra or classic opera productions at Opera Brasov. They also stage concerts geared toward young audiences. Jazz and blues are featured at many small clubs and live-music venues, culminating in a jazz festival every winter.

Don’t miss seeing the ancient White Tower and Black Tower inside the old city walls. Wind your way around a circular staircase inside White Tower for spectacular city views. You can also join a walkabout tour with historical narrations and stories.

Getting around

Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest is about 150 kilometres away. You can rent a car at the airport or in Brasov. Bike hires, taxis and buses offer alternative transportation.
