Where to stay in Ba Vì

About Ba Vì

Surrounded by the rugged Ba Vi National Park that supports a diverse range of tropical species, Ba Vi sprawls at the junction of the Red and Da Rivers. It’s dominated by a three-peaked mountain, offering a cool climate and tranquil escape from bustling Hanoi.

Things to do

The Dao ethnic group had long sourced medicinal plants in Ba Vi’s forests before French Colonial authorities established a hill station here. Ruins of churches, summer camps and even a prison are scattered throughout the forests and make for fantastic photo opportunities within the misty mountains.

Ba Vi remains a destination to relax and rejuvenate, with a spa resort nestled at the foot of the mountain. Indulge in a range of natural therapies, mud and herbal baths, with the resort’s architecture inspired by ancient Vietnamese palaces and traditional houses of the Northern Delta region.

Ba Vi’s second highest peak, Tan Vien, is topped by an 11th-century shrine that was created in honour of the Mountain God. Trek up to its summit alongside local pilgrims to take in the sweeping views across the Red River Valley, stretching all the way to Hanoi.

If you’re travelling with kids, then head to the Ba Vi water park near the entrance to Ba Vi National Park to find a lagoon-style pool and a variety of water slides. From here, it’s just a short walk to the Thien Son Waterfall, set within lush tropical surrounds.

Getting around

Ba Vi is around 90 minutes’ drive west of Hanoi and the Noi Bai International Airport, the main entry point into northern Vietnam. A private car or motorbike is best for tackling the hilly terrain and bumpy roads leading into Ba Vi National Park.
