Where to stay in Arco

About Arco

Watched over by an ancient hilltop castle, Arco nestles beneath sheer limestone cliffs to the north of Lake Garda. It’s within easy access of Rovoreto’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as the family-friendly attractions of Busatte Park.

Things to do

Follow one of the trails through olive groves to the ruined Arco Castle, which is perched on a prominent spur overlooking the town. Serving as a residence for the Arco Counts during the Middle Ages, it’s renowned for the beautiful frescoes of the Sala degli Affreschi and the Torre Renghera whose bell once called the local peasants to prayer.

Relax on the shores of Lago di Tenno, an almost perfectly round lake at the foot of Monte Misone. Swim in the crystal-clear waters or hike through the dense surrounding forest to photograph the Cascata del Varone waterfall.

Art enthusiasts should visit the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in nearby Rovereto, where masterpieces by Giorgio de Chirico and Felice Casorati are on display. In addition to its striking main gallery designed by architect Mario Botta, it encompasses the former home of Italian futurist painter and sculptor Fortunato Depero.

Travelling with kids? Head to Busatte Park, which lies amidst centuries-old olive trees on the northern shores of Lake Garda. Get your adrenalin pumping on the new BMX track or the aerial passes of the Adventure Park, where scenic hiking trails, grassy lawns and an on-site restaurant offer a more relaxed experience.

Getting around

Arco is a one-hour drive from Verona Villafranca Airport and just over two hours from Venice. The town is small enough to explore on foot and buses connect to the surrounding towns and villages.
