About Kitzbühel

The internationally-renowned ski resort and medieval town of Kitzbuhel occupies a scenic position by the Kitzbuheler Ache river in the Kitzbühel Alps. While skiing, snowboarding and apres-ski entertainment are the town’s biggest draws, you’ll also discover a wealth of historic architecture and a range of outdoor pursuits during summer.

Things to do in Kitzbühel

Winter in Kitzbuhel is a magnificent time of year when the 1,712-metre-high Hahnenkamm mountain is filled with skiers and snowboarders carving up fresh powder down beginner, intermediate and advanced runs. You’ll also find opportunities to go cross-country skiing, snow hiking, ice skating, curling and moonlight skiing.

During summer, Kitzbuhel turns into an outdoor adventure playground with over 1,000 kilometres of immersive hiking trails through flower meadows and past the rugged Wilder Kaiser mountain range. There are also more than 1,200 kilometres of road bike tracks and numerous mountain biking trails through the Kitzbühel Alps. Keen golfers can tee off at Golf and Country Club Rasmushof, while swimmers can take a dip at Schwarzsee Lake.

Are you visiting Kitzbuhel with your family? In winter you’ll find kid-friendly ski and obstacle courses, the indoor Aquarena Kitzbühel pool and fun kids’ clubs. Summer features dedicated nature walks for the kids and the chance to see wild boar, lynx, marmots and other native animals up close at Wildpark Aurach, which is four kilometres away.

Enjoy some apres-ski while in Kitzbuhel with dinner at the Austrian restaurant, Landhäusl-Waschkuchl, and live music at Highways Music-Bar. The town centres around the 14th-century St Catherine’s Church, which showcases Gothic architecture. It’s surrounded by various clothing boutiques, including Max Calzature, Lacoste and Superdry.

Getting around Kitzbühel

You can ride the Salzburg-Tyrol Railway to Kitzbuhel, with long-distance trains from Innsbruck stopping at Kitzbühel station. You can easily walk around town and use ski lifts to access the mountains. A car is required for venturing further afield.
