About Hadong

Nestled on the Seomjin River, Hadong lies on the southern edge of Jirisan National Park. It’s renowned for its spectacular rural scenery and peaceful ambience, as well as the cultivation of green tea, celebrated during a lively annual festival.

Things to do in Hadong

Explore Jirisan National Park, South Korea’s most popular national park which encompasses the country’s second-highest mountain, Jirisan. It’s crisscrossed by hiking trails weaving from its warm-temperate forests up to the cool-climate ridges, accompanied by gushing waterfalls, spectacular views and rare sightings of Asiatic black bears.

On the southern slopes of Jirisan is the Buddhist temple of Ssanggyesa, founded in the 8th century by two monks who were guided to its sacred location by a tiger. It features a stone pagoda where an ancient skull brought by the monks is enshrined, as well as an elegant pavilion where traditional Beompae performances are held.

Spend a day exploring the seaside town of Namsae, the gateway to the dramatic coastal landscapes of Hallyeohaesang National Park. Learn about Korean-German cultural ties in the European-inspired streets of the German Village and witness an ancient method of bamboo trap fishing from the Changseongyo Bridge.

Visit the picturesque port city of Yeosu, home to the outstanding Hanwha Aqua Planet and linked to scenic Odong Island. Soak up the Yeosu Peninsula views from the temple-like hermitage of Hyangiram, then watch the changing lights of the Dolsan Bridge while dining at one of the city’s seafood restaurants.
