Honningsvåg is set high in the north and is a launchpad to the region. The town is set around a picturesque harbour dotted with colourful fishing boats. Learn about the town’s seafaring heritage at the harbourside Nordkapp Museum and admire the beautiful Honningsvåg Church built in the Gothic Revival style.

Visit the Alta Museum to learn more about the unique history of the region. Exhibits cover topics like the indigenous Sami people, mesmerising Northern Lights and the town’s cutting-edge hydroelectric project. The cliffs surrounding the city are a protected UNESCO World Heritage site and are engraved with thousands of Stone Age petroglyphs.

Hammerfest is proud of its reputation as one of the northernmost towns in the world. Hammerfest Kirke towers over the city and features a striking contemporary design, with light streaming into the church through beautiful stained-glass windows above the altar. Follow the short trail up Salen Hill for sweeping views over the town, coastline and surrounding peaks. On the way, you’ll pass by a series of traditional Sami huts with grass-covered roofs.

Wild and remote, Stabbursdalen National Park is one of the country’s top hiking destinations. Trails wind through the dense pine forests and glacier-carved canyons. There’s a chance to spot moose, Eurasian lynx and wolverine. Stop by the Stabbursnes Visitor Centre to pick up trail maps.
